Here are the steps to follow:
If you have been a member of another trade union, the time spent in that previous union is credited if there is an unbroken sequence of memberships. In other words, there should be no gap between memberships. Additionally, you must also be a member of an unemployment fund (a-kassa).
Why is this important? As a member of Finansförbundet, you are covered by income insurance and negotiation assistance after one year of membership. If you’ve been a member of another trade union and avoid gaps between memberships, your time is recognized. For example, if you’ve been a member of another union for at least a year when switching to Finansförbundet, you’ll be covered by the income insurance and negotiation assistance right from the start.
Keep in mind that any insurances you had through your previous trade union will cease to be valid when you switch unions. As a member of Finansförbundet, you can also sign up for advantageous insurance policies for home, car, unexpected events, and/or personal insurance that provides financial protection in case of unforeseen circumstances through Bliwa and/or Trygg Hansa.
To be eligible for compensation from the income insurance, you need to be affiliated with an unemployment fund (a-kassa).

Already a member of another unemployment fund (a-kassa)? When applying to join the Finance and Insurance Industry Unemployment Fund, you can choose to receive assistance in cancelling your previous a-kassa membership.
