What are percentiles? 

Percentiles are statistics obtained by sorting all salaries, in each age group, from lowest to highest. The 10th percentile is a salary that 10 percent of the people in a group earn less than. Correspondingly, the 40th percentile represents salaries that 40 percent earn less than and 60 percent earn more than.
