Information about the notice of conflict at Klarna Bank AB

News 3/11: Unionen and Sveriges Ingenjörer have taken great responsibility in driving the process of collective agreements at Klarna and announced on Friday evening, together with Klarna, that the strike has been called off. A collective agreement has been signed with Finansförbundet and BAO*.

*BAO - The employers of the financial sector.

Previous information:

Unionen and Sveriges Ingenjörer have announced their intention to conduct a strike of their members at Klarna Bank's head office in Stockholm. This notification only applies to members of Unionen and Sveriges Ingenjörer, not to you as a member of Finansförbundet. We are taking a neutral position.

The notification of strike action, for members of Unionen and Sveriges Ingenjörer, includes a complete stoppage of work for their members employed at Klarna’s head office in Stockholm, Sveavägen 46. Once this industrial action takes effect, carrying out the tasks of striking employees will be declared blocked. The notice applies exclusively to members of Unionen and Sveriges Ingenjörer. If the parties fail to reach an agreement, these measures will take effect, at the earliest, on Tuesday 7 November 2023 at 10:30 a.m.

Finansförbundet’s position and its effect on you as a member

So far, Finansförbundet has taken a neutral position in the conflict between Unionen, Sveriges Ingenjörer and Klarna. This means that you as a member can, and should, carry out your usual work. You do, however, have the right to refuse to carry out tasks that a colleague who is on strike usually performs.

At the present time, you do not have the right to go on strike as a member of Finansförbundet, due to our neutrality.

Q&A about the conflict at Klarna

As we are not taking part in the negotiations between Unionen, Sveriges Ingenjörer and Klarna, no decisions about industrial action apply to our members. Finansförbundet is taking a neutral position regarding the strike notification.

As Unionen has asked us to remain neutral in regard to this conflict, we are not carrying out secondary industrial action at the moment.

Neutrality means that workers who are not involved in a conflict are not obliged to carry out work covered by the measures of the labor conflict (strike or blockade), i.e. work normally performed by striking employees. Employees have the legal right to refuse to perform strike-related tasks but can perform their normal work.

We believe that both Klarna and their employees benefit from having a collective agreement, regardless of who the agreement applies to. We are generally open to discussions with all employers in the banking and finance industry who wish to sign a collective agreement. We hope that Klarna as a bank feels a sense of belonging with the banking employer’s organization BAO. We are not currently seeking to encourage Klarna to enter into an agreement in this situation.
